As federal, state and local agencies continue to use aquatic macroinveterbrates as biological indicators of water quality, it is important that taxonomic and distributional information be constantly updated.  During the course of processing benthic macroinvertebrate samples provided by federal and state agencies, taxonomists at EcoAnalysts, Inc. identified larvae and pupae of the Neotropical chironomids Oliveiriella Wiedenbrug and Fittkau (Orthocladiinae) and Onconeura semifimbriata (Saether) (Orthocladiinae) from sites in New Mexico and Arizona, USA.  These occurrences represent the first Nearctic records of Oliveiriella and expand the Nearctic range of Onconeura semifimbriata.  We also identified larvae of Tempisquitoneura merrillorum Epler (Chironomidae, Orthocladiinae) from 1 site in Nevada and 2 sites in Utah, USA.  These state records expand the Nearctic range for T. merrillorum.  All three of these genera are very similar in appearance to other commonly encountered genera, but are not included in any of the current taxonomic keys for North America.
